For residents and tourists alike, Leeds has a cultural hub to explore, from museums and historic sites, to art galleries and guided tours of the city. The City Varieties Music Hall is but one of the beautiful stages that holds acts from theatre performances to live music shows, and gives Leeds an impressive range of nightlife activities.
As well as world-class theatres, performance, music and dance, Leeds is also home to award-winning restaurants, great pubs and cafes and is known for its breathtaking architecture. The shopping is terrific and the city also plays host to major international sporting events, colourful carnivals and exciting festivals. There are a wide variety of attractions and events to be enjoyed.
There are a number of different museums, each with fascinating exhibits and stories to tell, making fostering in Leeds a wonderful thing to do. For Instance, the Leeds Industrial Museum contains exhibits from 18th century to the present day and tells the history of manufacturing in Leeds, including textiles, clothing, printing and engineering. At the Leeds Discovery Centre, you will find a huge range of over one million fascinating objects. From elephant skulls to a medieval log boat, mummy bandages and meteorites, the Discovery Centre offers a unique opportunity for hands-on exploration into the natural world and human history.
In the centre of Leeds, you’ll also find a diverse range of parks and green spaces, from the scenic walks around Yeadon tarn to the delightful Donkey Sanctuary, which offers assisted interaction for local school children with additional needs. There are a further range of outdoor experiences to be enjoyed in Leeds and its surrounding area. For instance, Roundhay Park covers over 700 acres of rolling parkland with lakes, woodlands, formal gardens, cafes, playgrounds, and the Tropical World visitor attraction.
Then again, at Kirkstall Abbey, you can explore one of the most complete examples of a medieval Cistercian abbey in Britain. Set in wonderful parkland along the banks of the River Aire, the Abbey is set amid a haven of wildlife and greenery.
The Abbey Visitor Centre tells you more about the lives of the 12th century monks and contains the touch table, a unique catalogue of images of the abbey from the 18th century to the present day. Family activities and trails are run throughout the year from the Visitor Centre, so the Abbey offers a wide range of things to do.
