Hemsworth is a town and civil parish forming part of the City of Wakefield, with a coal mining heritage, and lies on the edge of West Yorkshire.
The area boasts exciting attractions for families to enjoy, such as the Hemsworth Water Park. The park boasts two lakes, where you can choose between grabbing your fishing tackle and riding pedalos. If you can tear yourself away from the lakeside tranquillity there’s an adventure playground in the Park. Playworld has a tower slide, climbing frames and a sandpit for toddlers. There is also a miniature railway for all the family to enjoy.
The Wakefield district has 69 managed parks and wildlife area, as well as many acres of scenic Yorkshire countryside to drive, cycle or walk through. For the adventurous in spirit, you can get active in the great outdoors and feel the excitement as you wind surf across Pugneys Country Park or take an intense cycle ride through historic parkland. Or if you want to relax a bit, then you can enjoy a peaceful walk through picturesque woodlands, have a family picnic by a lake and possibly bring your binoculars to be ready for wildlife spotting.
There is no shortage of excellent places for the family to eat and drink too. Wakefield has some of the most popular food festivals in Yorkshire and offers a wide choice of restaurants, cafes, pubs and food markets. There are also terrific shopping facilities, music venues and theatres, providing something for everyone day and night.
Hemsworth has excellent public transport services available at its bus station, with buses running as far out as Barnsley, Pontefract and Doncaster. These links enable families to travel around the county, enjoying the towns, villages and glorious countryside.
