Pontefract is a historic market town in West Yorkshire. It is one of the five towns in the metropolitan borough of the City of Wakefield and has a population of 30,881.
It is located near to the A1 and M62, offering good access along with its three railway stations, which offer routes to York and Sheffield. The town has a lot of history, made apparent with Pontefract Castle, where you can tread in the footsteps of Kings and Queens and explore the historic ruins of the castle.
The town is also home to the famous Pontefract Racecourse, which is the longest continuous horse racing circuit in Europe at 2 miles 125 yards. The track stages flat racing between the end of March and the end of October.
