Humberside in Northeast England was established as a non-metropolitan and ceremonial county between 1974 up until 1996, when it was replaced by four unitary authorities. It was made of land from either side of the Humber Estuary, which included portions of the East and West Ridings of Yorkshire and the district of Lindsey in Lincolnshire.
The name Humberside is still used for the area’s airport and for certain other purposes such as the Humberside Police Service and the Humberside Fire & Rescue Services. The area has a wide variety of activities to enjoy and places to visit, including the vibrant City of Hull.
Voted the UK City of Culture in 2017, Hull offers fantastic attractions including museums, art galleries and music events. Additionally, a great place for all the family to visit is The Deep, a famous city architectural landmark which is home to over 300 species and 5,000 animals, including the penguins, sharks, turtles and rays.
On Lincolnshire’s east coast, there are wonderful things to do at the seaside, such as visiting the Fishing Heritage Centre and the Time Trap Museum in Grimsby. Or if you would prefer to spend time at a traditional English seaside resort, there is no better place to go than the nearby town of Cleethorpes, with three miles of glorious beaches, cafes and fairground rides for children to enjoy.
In the East Riding of Yorkshire, the Burnby Hall Gardens and Museum offers a haven of beauty and tranquillity. The gardens are spread over an impressive eight acres and includes two lakes which hold both a National Collection of Hardy Water Lilies and gigantic Koi Carp, which can even be handled! Humberside has a huge range of wonderful attractions for all the family.
