Fostering in YorkThe scenic walled city of York, located in the northeast of England, is a place steeped in history and tradition. With its beautiful city walls, picturesque River Ouse, and nearby attractions such as the Yorkshire Air Museum and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, York provides a unique backdrop for fostering families.

York’s rich cultural heritage and variety of family-friendly activities make it an excellent location for fostering. Our team at Fostering2Inspire has a strong understanding of the area and is always happy to suggest things for foster carers and their children to do. Whether it’s exploring York’s vibrant history, enjoying a walk along the city walls, or travelling in style on a heritage train, there is something for everyone to enjoy. For a more interactive experience, why not visit Sea Life Scarborough to walk with penguins or discover the World of James Herriot, celebrating the life of the world-famous vet?

At Fostering2Inspire, we work closely with foster carers based in York and the surrounding areas to ensure they feel supported throughout their fostering journey. We believe that nurturing a child’s development starts in the home, and our experienced team is on hand to provide guidance and assistance whenever needed. From answering questions to providing 24/7 out-of-hours support, we are here to help.

Becoming a foster carer involves several key stages, and we will support you every step of the way. These stages include:

  • The initial enquiry: Thinking about fostering? Start by giving us a call - completely without obligation. This is your chance to ask questions, share your thoughts, and explore fostering options. Our friendly team is on hand to guide you and offer all the advice you need to take the next step confidently.
  • A home visit: We’ll arrange for a social worker to meet you at home, where we can discuss fostering more deeply. This visit is an opportunity to learn about the support available, the fostering process, and to explore your motivations. If you're part of a couple, your partner can join the conversation too.
  • The application and assessment process: After applying, an assessing social worker will guide you through the six-month process, including home visits, checks, and references.
  • Approval: Your completed assessment will be reviewed by the Fostering Panel, who decide on your suitability to foster. This stage can feel daunting, but rest assured - Fostering2Inspire will guide you every step of the way, offering support and reassurance.

Once approved, our commitment to you doesn’t end. We provide ongoing support and training, ensuring you feel confident and valued in your role as a foster carer.
